Ubulu-Uku Community installs new Ada

Personalities at home and in the Diaspora stormed the hilly town of Ubulu-Uku recently that is situated some thirty kilometres (30 kms.) west of the River Niger in the present Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria, eastwards, it shares a boundary with Ogwashi-Uku, westwards with Obior, northwards with Issele-Uku and southwards with Ubulu-Unor to witness the installation of a new “Ada” eldest daughter of Umuanugwe, Mama Ngbonkwo Malinda Onokor, (a.k.a. Ojefo) octogenarian and respected community leader.

The ceremony specifically took place at Ogbeakwu in Abuedo Quarters popularly known as Abuisiyi first among equals in the ancient peaceful town.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the ceremony, the new Ada conveyed her profound gratitude to all her children, in-laws and well wishers who attended the ceremony and encouraged them to remain courageous and always exhibit indomitable spirit in the face of any challenges in life. She appealed to all Anugwe children to be good ambassadors and remain in their rightful place and the good things of life will locate them stating that it is just a question of time.

Her words, “Wherever you find yourself, never stop thanking God. Though, your position could have been much better, it could also have been much worse”.

Speaking on Nigeria generally, she stated that the events of the recent past have put to the test, our collective resolve as a democratic nation. The new Ada added “I am delighted to note that our nation had demonstrated resilience and unity of purpose. Today affords us time to reconnect with ourselves and overcome any suspicions, hurts and doubts, which had occurred”. In all these, she categorically stated, there are no winners and losers.

Mama Onokor used the opportunity to call on the children of Anugwe and the people of Ubulu-Uku to support PDP and Jonathan’s ticket come 2011 based on the significant progress within short period of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration. This is because there is room for the administration to do more. She also called on the wives of umuanugwe to behave properly and responsibly so as to ensure the progress and development of their husbands and children. The new Ada promised to remain prayerful for everybody within and outside her domain.

Present at the ceremony among others to grace the occasion were the daughters and sons of Unuanugwe, Chief and Mrs. George Ofulue, the Isagba of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom; Dr. Nathaniel Obokoh, retired University of Port Harcourt Librarian and Principal Officer; Dr. Peter Osede Soeze, Consultant Radiology, Central Hospital, Agbor; Mr. and Mrs. Fidelis Oshaime, retired management staff in the Delta State Judiciary, Mr. Charles Uji, an educationist and educator; Mr. Charles Ikedikwa Soeze, mass communication scholar and Chief Officer (Administration) of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State; Mr. Michael Azuka Ugbah, President, Ubulu-Uku Youths Association (Home Branch); Mr. Augustine Akakpor (popularly known as Papingo) as well as Mr. Greg Okoh, publisher, politician and business man who functioned as the master of ceremonies (M.C.).

A traditional dance group, Egwu Aguba added colour and glamour to the ceremony.
