2011: Deliver on your promises before seeking our mandate, Ijaw group dares Uduaghan

By: Jolomi Okotie

A political pressure group, Coalition of Ijaw Youth Leader, COIL, says Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan must deliver on the electoral promises he made to the Ijaw nation in 2007 before seeking their mandate in the 2011 gubernatorial poll in Delta State.

In a statement made available exclusively to Fresh Angle, the Ijaw group listed the abandoned Gbaigolor/Esama bridge project, the non operational Burutu School of Marine Technology, the abandoned Gbaigolor-Ogriagbene road as well as the yet to commence Bomadi Polytechnic as some of the areas where the Governor has failed the Ijaw nation. The group which challenged the governor to watch the video clips of his promises when he came to campaign in Bomadi also noted that there is nobody from Bomadi local government among the “over 30 commissioners in the state”.

The statement which was signed by Dr. Agagha C.R, Comrade Michael B. Orusede and Hon. Fred Afoegba, Chairman, Secretary General and Co-ordinator respectively, advised all Ijaw youths in the State to go about their political activities legitimately “until the various political parties will conclude their primaries and the burning issue of 3rd and 4th term of Ijaw political representatives will be effectively addressed. While calling for a synergy of all pro Goodluck Jonathan Presidency campaign groups to enable it form a formidable force, the group called on all gubernatorial aspirant to take their electioneering campaign to at least 80% of “our Ijaw communities so that our people can have one on one interaction with the person who want to govern them”.

They vowed that they are not bothered about the zoning controversy because it is an internal arrangement of political parties, but stressed that their mandate will be given to whoever has lofty manifesto for Ijaw communities.
