N20million micro finance loan is just the beginning, Edema declares

Chairman of Warri South local government, Hon. Mofe Edema says the recent twenty million naira loan given to 190 women cutting across the 19 wards that make up the local government is just the beginning of empowerment programmes outlined by his administration.

The Warri South local government Chairman made the revelation Monday November 1 during a ceremony organized at the council secretariat to dole out cheques for the first batch of beneficiaries. Hon. Edema popularly addressed as Man of God by his admirers told the gathering which includes PDP bigwigs in the state that the money is not “dash” but to assist the beneficiaries in their business. He explained that payment for the loans will commence after 6months in peace meal, with each beneficiary parting with a minimum of two thousand and maximum of 3 thousand for a period of 3years.

According to Hon. Edema, his administration will in the months of December 2010, February, March and April 2011 give out more soft loans to 190 women monthly. He quipped that the local government did not acquire loan from any bank to execute the programme, which according to him is to compliment the state government’s micro credit programmes.

Executive Assistant to Delta State government, Dr. Antonia Ashiedu who delivered a keynote address at the elaborate but brief ceremony, expressed delight at the programme. While noting that programmes of this nature will make the country better if embraced by all, Dr. Ashiedu enjoined the beneficiaries to repay the loan “when the time comes”. She described the loan as “good-bye to money lender” and advised the beneficiaries not to use the loans for social engagements but to boost their businesses.

Warri South PDP Chairman, Mr. Amah Agbajoh who also spoke at the ceremony commended the Edema administration for initiating the programme and urged the women to invest the money into viable businesses.

Fresh Angle can report that the micro finance scheme which is solely financed by the Edema administration is facilitated by Amju Unique Micro Finance bank with each of the 19 wards producing 10 beneficiaries.

Madam Becky Oloro, one of the beneficiaries from Okumagba ward II who responded on behalf of other beneficiaries, thanked Hon. Mofe Edema and urged him to do more, even as she endorsed him for a second term.

Delta South PDP Chairman, Hon. Kenneth Efejuku, Delta State Assistant PDP Organizing Secretary, Stanley Agbosa, Hon. Omimi Esquire of Delta State Waste Management Board, Warri South PDP Secretary, Mr. Davis Akhigbe, Vice Chairman of Warri South local government, Hon. Charlie Etsaghara, Secretary to Warri South local government, Dr. Austin Uroye as well as the Warri South Council Director of Personnel Management, Sir Christopher Aghara were among dignitaries that graced the flag-off.
