The Parents Teacher Association and management of Aileru Primary School, Warri have called on the authorities of the Inland Water-Ways, Igbudu community and the executive chairman of Warri South local government to address the poor state of infrastructure in the school.

Chairman of the Parents Teacher Association, Mr. Williams Ekpobogor who spoke with Fresh Angle recently on behalf of the management of the school, said the school is in dire need of drainage system, renovation of dilapidated structures, fencing of the entire school compound and provision of adequate security for both the live of management, pupils and properties of the school. Mr. William Ekpobogor lamented the poor infrastructure of the school and observed that there are no roofs to majority of the classrooms apart from the only renovated block of six classrooms by the present administration of Warri South local government. The school which is hidden and situated at the back of Delta Line in Marine Quarters according to Mr. Ekpobogor has no chairs as residents of the area come to fetch them for fire wood.

According to him, bad boys come to the school to smoke Indian hemp and vandalize the school structure. He stated that the footballers are not left out as they aid in the destruction of the roof. He blamed the decay in the school infrastructure on the community in which it is situated and government as it is still having structures in which it was founded by the Inland Water-ways in 1969. Mr. Ekpobogor pointed out that there are no evidence yet for them to deal with anyone coming to fetch the school chairs for firewood, promising to deal decisively with anyone caught.

The only functional structure in the school is jointly used by Aileru Primary School “A” and “B” in an environment heavily flooded. Fresh Angle can report that the school is now being used as dumping site for refuse by residents of the area.

Fresh Angle also gathered from the PTA chairman that parts of the school land is allegedly being encroached on by Four Square Gospel Church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Beulah Land Nursery/Primary School and Life Spring Academy.

As at the time of filing this report, a resident brought in a surveyor and a buyer to purchase part of the school land. But when Fresh Angle questioned them, they declined comments.

This Mr. William said is what the school is faced with. He called on members of the Parents Teachers Association to also donate in anyway they can so as to assist the school before the help of government comes. He also used the medium to call on the Niger Delta Development Commission and DESOPADEC to help the school upgrade its infrastructure.
