Environmental Engineering student canvasses enforcement of carbon emission law

President of Petroleum Training Institute Chapter of Environmental Engineering Students, Ibiyemi Babatunde has urged individuals and corporate bodies to be responsible in sustaining and maintaining a healthy environment, just as he advised that rules and law governing carbon emission be enforced by relevant authorities.

He made the call at the environmental week /10th year anniversary lecture held recently at the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State.

Ibiyemi Babatunde who stated that there is need for all to join hands in combating environmental degradation, said the introduction of harmful substances into the environment have been discovered to have adverse effects on human health, agricultural productivity and natural ecosystem.

He noted that the threat to vegetable, animals and ultimately quality of human life through food chain is real and must be earnestly confronted. According to him, human activities that encourage carbon emission be discouraged and public awareness as well as enlightenment of the society on the inherent danger of carbon emission effects be propagated.

He also charged all to renew their commitment in maintaining a carbon free emission environment.

In a lecture titled “the role of environmental specialist”, Dr. Idihen Ayan called on Nigerians to join the Green Revolution, noting that there must be initiative measured to come out of the emission. Dr. Ayan used the opportunity to congratulate the students on their 10th anniversary celebration.

For his part, the Warri Press Secretary to Delta State Governor, Mr. Linus Chima, lamented the death of a television programme “Habitat 2000”. In his words, “with Habitat 2000, I and my colleague, may her soul rest in peace, were able to fight refuse to a stand still and put in place what you see at the Effurun Roundabout fountain and the ornamental plant.

Mr. Linus Chima also called for the consideration of fumigation and segregation plant (waste recycling).

Highpoints of the event was the cutting of the anniversary cake and award presentation to outstanding individuals.
