Human Rights group sue Delta Senator: • Wants N50million as damage for forcefully evacuating a physically challenged person

A Delta based human right group, Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defense (FJHD) has sued the senator representing Delta Central at the senate, Professor Adegor Eferakeya over alleged infringement on the fundamental human right of a physical challenged person, Friday Eki.

The National Co-ordiantor of the forum, Barr. Oghenejabor Ikimi, who made the disclosure in its first plenary session, said they are demanding N50million damage in a suit filed at the High Court, Sapele in Suit No: S/M/42/2010.

The Senator according to Barr. Ikimi, allegedly ordered his mobile police orderlies to forcefully eject Friday Eki from his self contain apartment, claiming that he is the new landlord of the said premises.

Friday Eki, a physically challenged person in the process had his personal belongings thrown out of the apartment and his artificial limb damaged in the process.

This is one of the many suits the Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defense is tackling at the moment.

The 1st plenary (peoples parliament) session which held at the Oza hall of the Peabody Hotel, kilometer 2, DSC Expressway had Barr. O. Ikimi pointing out that human rights violations and injustice over the past decades have risen to a dangerous dimension such that there is an urgent need to tackle it.

While calling on government and its agencies to corporate with members of the forum special panel in the discharge of its duties of promoting Justice and good governance in the country, Barr. Ikimi said the rationale behind the people’s parliament is to hear and collate grassroots complaints of cases of injustice and human rights violations traceable to government at all levels and its various agencies like the police, the Joint Task Force (JTF), Special Security outfits and Security agencies in Nigeria in a bid to bringing those complaints to the attention of government and all relevant authorities, including members of the general public.

Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Sam Okoro called on the public to rise up to the challenges and assist the Forum for Justice of Human Rights Defense in fighting against injustice in Nigeria. He used the medium to pray for God’s guidance for Barr. O. Ikimi and his family for the good works he is doing. He described Governor Uduaghan as a man of the people, even as he expressed hope that the governor will do something about injustice in Delta State.

Special guest of Honour, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan who was ably represented by his Press Secretary, Mr. Linus Chima, called on the public to identify with the need to educate people of their rights by the Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defense, noting that the knowledge of the rights of the people will continue to blossom with any case won. He assured FJHD of Delta State government support in the area of injustice in Nigeria and urged them not to relent in their efforts in the fight for Justice and fairness.
