August 1, 2010 will remain an unforgettable day in the history book of members of the Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Igbudu Warri when a member of hers’ was kidnapped at about 8am and released the same morning.

Dependable sources had it that the victim, an aged woman was said to have arrived for the morning service before 8am when she was kidnapped while trying to come down from her vehicle at the arena of the church.

The hoodlums who came in a Jeep was said to have kidnapped the victim and drove off. Attempts to pursue and trace the kidnappers by a member of the church proved abortive as her vehicle was too small and could not stand the race with the kidnappers’ Jeep.

Worried by the development, members of the Saint Peter’s Anglican Church stood still as the service could not hold in proper shape even though some prayed in their hearts that nothing should happen to their member.

More worrisome were the children of the victim who for fear of what could possibly happen next entered into their family Jeep and drove round town disseminating information of the incident to everyone who came their way for possible assistance. But in the process, the victim’s son, Dare who drove the car hit an okada rider and his passenger who happened to be a member of the victim’s church. The okada rider had a serious dispute with Mr. Dare and the other member of the church who refused to disclose his identity and this caused a serious hold up at the Deco road opposite Texaco Filling Station very close to major General David Ejoh’s residence. Efforts to separate both party from possible fighting proved abortive.

When Fresh Angle visited the Saint Peter’s Anglican Church later, there was wild Jubilation as members were seen dancing and giving thanks to the Almighty God following the release of Dare’s mother. Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the people’s warden, Mr. Emmanuel Unuawodoh said a member of the church was actually kidnapped and was released along the Benin Sapele road the same morning. Though he refused disclosing the name of the victim, Mr. Unuawodoh used the medium to thank God for what he has done for the church.

Attempts to speak with the victim were futile as she was inside the church thanking God.

Though a son of the victim who goes by the nickname “chief” confirmed the incident, he however refused to disclose the family name, claiming they don’t want any other attack from kidnappers.
