Nigeria Immigration kick starts registration of African Nationals resident in Warri

The Nigerian Immigration service has flagged of the electronic registration of ECOWAS and other African Nationals living in Warri South local government and environ.

This much was made known by the Delta State Comptroller General when he paid a courtesy visit to Warri South council recently.

The Delta State Comptroller who was represented by the Assistant Comptroller, Warri area office, Sir Akpobi Luke, explained that the aim is not to “evict our African brothers from Nigeria but to have a comprehensive data of who they are and where they live”.

He revealed that after the registration, the African Nationals living in Warri South local government will be given identity cards. The Comptroller, who announced that the exercise will be taken to all the local government areas in Delta State, also used the medium to advice those affected to turn up for the exercise.

Earlier in a speech presented by the Head of ECOWAS Affairs and African Nationals’ Unit of Immigration Service Warri South, Mrs. Ufuoma Elizabeth Umukoro, she noted that the idea behind the flag off of the ECOWAS/Africa Nationals living in Nigeria is to ensure proper documentation of African Nationals living in the area so as to enable the Immigration service monitor the movement and activities of African Nationals living in Warri South and its environs. She also appealed to local government and community leaders to always co-exist and live in unity in the various local government areas.

Mrs. U.E. Umukoro said the service is looking forward to the corporation of all those affected, asking them to come to her office in Warri South local government council to put down their correct data.

While the area commander of the Nigeria Police, represented by CSP John Agumagu said a comprehensive list of all those registered in Warri South must get to the police in order to aid them in combating crime, the Commanding Officer of NNS Delta, represented by lieutenant Commodore .C. Yahaya pledged the assistance of the Navy to the Immigration command in the area. The representative of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, Mr. Dike Uchendu assured the Immigration of its cooperation.

Barr. S. Awachi, Special Assistant to the Delta State Comptroller of Immigration Service who anchored the programme was among top officers present.
