Oginibo Community in Ughelli South local government was recently thrown into sorrow and anguish in the early hours of the day when a young man identified as Fredrick Pius Oyovwevotu fell down from a ladder while trying to fix electricity at the community central transformer and died.

According to eyewitness, it all started the previous night when there was electricity from PHCN and parts of the community were in darkness. Fredrick Oyovwevotu reportedly got up and said he was going out to fix the fault, a decision the wife objected to.

A heated argument ensued between the couple. Following neighbours intervention however, Fredrick and his wife went to sleep.

Fresh Angle gathered that the following morning, being the Chairman of the Electricity Committee in the Community, Fredrick organized other members of his committee and went to the transformer to get it fixed.

On getting to the top of the nearby pole, PHCN restored electricity and his hand was burnt.

A man at the bottom end of the ladder Fredrick Pius Oyovwevotu used in climbing the PHCN pole allegedly pushed the pole due to fear and Fredrick who did not belt himself fell off the ladder, the ladder fell on a fence which in turn fell on Fredrick. He was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Otu –Jeremi where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead.

Our Delta Central Correspondent reports that Fredrick was a struggling young man who practiced tailoring before recently securing employment with an oil servicing firm offshore. He just returned from off duties days earlier before meeting his untimely death.

He is survived by wife, Rachael and five children with the oldest being twelve years.

His remains have already been laid to rest at his family compound in Iwhre Oyevwevotu in Oginibo town, Ughelli South local government area of Delta State.
