Siasia moves to bring back Eagles glory days

By: Tonebsky Nesta

If there is one appointment that seems to have gone down well with majority of Nigerians in recent times, it’s the appointment of Bayelsa born ex Nigerian International, Samson Siasia as Chief Coach of the Senior National team, the Super Eagles. Unlike the endless media and interpersonal arguments that usually greet the appointment of the Super Eagles Manager, the appointment of Siasia has rather taken the storm from the position of Eagles helmsman to that of who heads the Nigerian Premier league.

Already the former under 21, under 23, JUTH FC and Heartland gaffer has set out on the right path by inviting a largely home based players to camp for an invitational tourney, tagged Obama Challenge in the United States come February.

Though the Bayelsa born soccer tactician only recently ended a tour of Europe to meet with some established Eagles players and rookies, he has made it point blank that the bulk of the Senior National team will comprise of mostly domestic based players, who according to him will form a-stand-by team.

This move which was adopted by Clemens Westerhof Nigeria’s most successful National team manager so far will definitely bring back the glory days of Nigeria football at the senior level.

Siasia’s aptitude of uncovering budding talents in the domestic front as well as his ability to blend them into a formidable group with perfect understanding has already been proven when he handled the under 21 and under 23 National teams. That is what all genuine supporters and fans of the Super Eagles have been asking for in order to save the nation from the recent dismal outings of the Super Eagles. Another shortcoming of the team noticed over the years which the former Super Eagles utility player has the ability to handle is the issue of indiscipline and lateness to camp. It took Clemens Westerhof four years to build a rock solid and entertaining team for Nigeria, so soccer loving Nigerians should not expect too much at the Obama challenge, but will definitely see glimpses of what to expect from the very organized Niger Delta pride
