Alleged PHCN staff vandalize transformer, throws Ex NDDC Commissioner’s hotel in darkness

By: Jolomi Okotie

Alleged officials of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, have vandalized a transformer stationed at the front of an hotel, Paullet Suites, owned by a former NDDC Commissioner (name withheld) leaving the hotel and its surrounding buildings in darkness.

Some business and property owners in the adjourning settlements of Ugbuwangue off the NPA Expressway in Warri where the hotel is situated, told Fresh Angle that the owner of the hotel has vowed not to spend his money in carrying out the repairs any longer after he was told by officials of PHCN that it would cost two hundred and fifty thousand naira to fix the vandalized part of the transformer. The hotel residents and other business concerns in the area have virtually been running on fuel and diesel for over a week as at press time.

Fresh Angle gathered that the recent vandalism is the third in a row, with the Ex NDDC Commissioner and Chieftain of the PDP being a prime target after releasing money to officials of PHCN in the first two instances to fix affected parts of the transformer. An impeccable source in the area hinted Fresh Angle that the first time the transformer was vandalized, an alleged PHCN official was arrested at the fenced spot housing the transformer and was subsequently handed over to the police. No arrest have so far been made in the recent vandalism which saw those responsible gaining entry into the locked spot, digging the ground and going away with very sensitive parts of the transformer.
