NIJ matriculates 339 students

A total of 399 students comprising of National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and Post Graduate students were Tuesday February 1, matriculated by the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, Ogba, Lagos.
Provost of the Institution, Dr. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ikem while speaking at the ceremony, disclosed that the intake of students this year was large due to the faith they have in the institution. In her words, “our intake this year is good and we have the full capacity this year. We are grateful to God again and to Nigerians who have faith in this Institution. And to receive our students, the school has integrated members of our homely community. We have high hopes that they would add values toward the development and growth they have met on ground”.
In addition, she reassured parents and students that the Institute was committed to offering the best qualitative education in mass communication. She maintained that “the dreams and visions of this school remain the same and that is to produce mature, discipline and professional journalists for the country”.
She averred that “so far the products of NIJ have demonstrated very promising traits in the work place, in the media industry and wherever they have found themselves”.
In the same vein, a Post Graduate Diploma student, Mr. Alaba Ajayi who spoke during the matriculation said “NIJ would still be a citadel of learning”. He added that on behalf of the students, he would swear an oath to the provost, the academic and the non academic staff that the students would abide by their leadership and continue to promote freedom of speech to every nook and crannies of the universe.
In addition, a Higher National Diploma student, Mr. Oluwatosin Gbemile said “since the inception of NIJ in 1971, the aim of our founding fathers was to lay a good foundation where journalists will be trained in the use of accuracy, brevity and sincerity”.
