The Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence (FJHD) have called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim to over-haul and reposition the Delta State Police Command by ordering the mass transfer of policemen from the state police command.

The human rights group called for the injection of new sets of policemen from other states, adding that it is the only antidote that would propel the Delta State police command into effectively tackling violent crimes and checking the state of insecurity.

The National Co-ordinator of the forum, Barr. Oghenejabor Ikimi who spoke on behalf of the Forum noted that many policemen presently serving in Delta State police command have remained in a police division continuously for years without any transfer and even where transfers are made within the command, these policemen allegedly work their transfer back to their former divisions. He alleged that these anomaly occur in the so called lucrative police divisions of “A” and “B” in Warri, Enerhen, Ovwian / Aladja, Ekpan, Abraka, Agbor, Aboh, Ughelli and Asaba.

The human rights activist also alleged that the ugly development have adversely affected the Delta State police command in effectively combating the rising cases of crime in the state. Barr. Ikimi who noted the rising spate of violent crimes and lawlessness in the state, also used the medium to call on the three tiers of government to stop playing politics with welfare and security of the citizenry through proactive approach as provided for in section 14 sub section 2 paragraph (b) of the 1999 constitution.

Meanwhile Barr. Ikimi has called on the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Delta State to immediately investigate the case of Aviara Inland 3, units 27 and 28 in Isoko South Local government area where the registration officer in the area identified simply as Mr. Dennis allegedly connived with some politicians in the area to register under-aged persons.

He condemned the use of monetary inducements by politicians to lure unsuspecting eligible voters into registering in locations outside their original residents.

He has however commended the Delta State government for releasing N50million for rehabilitation work in Ayakoromo community in Burutu local government area of Delta State after the recent JTF bombardments, advising that the fund be judiciously spent in the interest and well being of Ayakoromo people.
