Demolition of storey building kills Hausa labourer

By: Omoghene Faith
From: Udu

A man who went out to work with the hope of coming back with stipend met his death when a section of a storey building formally owned by the Alawurus , a popular family name in Warri, Delta State collapsed and killed him.

Our Correspondent reports that the incident happened at Udu Road by Solace Fast Food in Udu local government area of Delta State. It was reliably gathered that the storey building was recently sold to a new owner by one of Alawuru sons who inherited the property, the new owner decided to demolish the building and put up a new one. The new owner allegedly gave the demolition job to an unskilled labourer. While some of the labourers were carrying out the demolition at the top of the building, others were on the ground.

In the process, a section of the wall upstairs fell on one of the labourers and he died on the spot. Efforts to rescue him were unsuccessful.

When Fresh Angle visited the scene, sympathizers were seen in numbers, but no one could give a clear description of the victim.

Our Correspondent however gathered that the victim, a Hausa was picked from the popular Hausa quarter in Warri for the job. The incident has since been reported to the police, while the corpse has been deposited at a mortuary nearby.
